The Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign has received its final donation for the facility’s Phase 2. UA Local 527 has made a $10,000 Home Run donation towards the park. The union local represents plumbers, steamfitters, and welders in Southwestern Ontario.

The donation came after the local’s membership overwhelmingly voted to help fund the campaign. That means eight labour unions have donated $165,000 towards further park development.
“Obviously we are very grateful to the local’s membership for their generous donation,” said Campaign Co-Chair Rob Stanley. “Their gift caps a collective generosity that speaks volumes about the value unions place on partnering and supporting projects like this; projects that enhance the communities in which their members work, live and play.”
“The plumbers, steamfitters and welders of UA Local 527 couldn’t be happier to continue its good relations with the Town of Saugeen Shores and surrounding communities,” said UA 527 Business Agent Mark Walton. “We are delighted to be a partner in developing the Lamont Sports Park into a first-class facility.”
This donation ends the public fundraising for Phase 2 of the campaign. The Town’s fundraising committee had presented its final report to Council on September 26th, indicating that some donations remained outstanding.
The campaign has raised over $1.7 million towards Phase 2 with construction expected to get underway in the spring. Phase 1 of Lamont Sports Park officially opens in May 2023.
