“Sportsmanship has been nice. So, it’s been pretty good,” JoJo Deal said.
Softball players from all over the southwest are coming to play in the tournament put on by U-Trip out of Hobbs, New Mexico.
“It does wonders for all of the girls because what it does it gives the girls an opportunity to play against different teams,” Deal said. “Then when we go out of town, we are better prepared for when we do showcases.
There are a lot of cars in the Sportspark and they’re bringing out of town players. But out of town players mean out of town dollars.
“People are traveling from all over the place in the area to come and participate in these tournaments so it creates hotel room nights, have dinner here and spend their money here,” Alexandra South, marketing specialist of El Paso County Parks & Recreation, said.
“I know how much I’m spending on this,” Eric Han said. “$450 alone in hotel bills and gas and, you know, meals last night for my daughter and I were close to $50. So it’s a lot of money.”
The county has a plan to bring more tournaments to make more money from the Sportspark.
“Also what we are working to do is create more of our own internal tournaments to kind of keep the fields at use so that the outside organizations see that it’s a great place to have their tournaments as well,” South said.
