Currently, Bill and Carol’s is taking donations to provide lunches out of their store, and has struggled to find a venue to distribute those lunches. According to an email from city manager Rob Straebel, parks and recreation officials agreed to open the Sports Park for such purposes, given its accessible location next to a large apartment complex.
The lodge will not be accessible for use, and staff will not interact with anyone. Lunches will be available on a table between the building’s double doors. Individuals can open the outer door, take their sack lunch and leave. Staff will remain on site and disinfect hard surfaces.
The city will also be informing residents of the apartment complex of the service.
“Even though our staff has plenty to do, this is a time where we can come together and help those who may be in need,” Straebel said in an email. “We will take all necessary safety precautions to ensure our staff is safe (we’re already cleaning public restrooms, emptying trash, etc…) but all agree this is the right thing to do for now.”
